We are thrilled to be named finalists in the Federation of Small Businesses’ Awards for Yorkshire & Humber 2022! We’ve been nominated under the category of Self Employed business of the Year.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on 25 February in York and will then go on to compete in the National Final.
Landscape photogrammetry and AR
This reconstruction model of Skipsea Castle shows how we can combine drone photogrammetry and classic 3D modeling from research to get a more accurately placed model. We can then remove the landscape and use the model in an AR overlay which should then accurately appear on top of the existing Skipsea mound where the castle once stood. The AR here was tested at York Minster as we've not yet made it out to the mound to test it out.
Volunteers and Interns help with new product
There’s quite a buzz around the metaphorical Experience Heritage office right now (metaphoric because we are currently working remotely and from two different countries!). Our little team has grown quite a bit for the winter. We’ve taken on 7 Research Volunteers, 2 Graphic Design Interns and 1 Digital Imaging Volunteer.
So why all the hands on deck? We are currently in the process of developing our own heritage trail app for the city of York which we then hope to use as a basis for a more widely released product. The Research Team is helping us gather information about the fascinating places around York in order to develop different themed trails. Meanwhile, the Design Team is helping us to create an easy-to-use and professionally styled app. Last but not least, our Digital Imaging Assistant is helping us to create some really fun and interactive pieces to include as part of the trails. We’re really excited to have all of their help and we are very much looking forward to the final outcome of all of our efforts!
Thanks to all the Volunteers and Interns for their hard work!

York Careers Ready Mentor
by Bethany Watrous
Throughout 2022, I will be mentoring a sixth form student as a volunteer of the Careers Ready Programme in York. As part of this, we will meet once a month and discuss different career options and pathways, what the world of work is like and the different skills they’ll need moving into the workforce. As part of this, we will also work to:
Identify their personal strengths and skills for development
Present themselves in a professional manner
Explore different career paths and how to navigate towards them
Gain real experience of the world of work e.g. by visiting you at your office
I look forward to this opportunity to give back. Throughout these first years starting and running my business, I’ve been lucky to be aided by several mentors along the way and this is a way I can pay that forward to the next generation.
I also appreciate the chance to be able to help young students better understand what they might do with their passions. As a young student, I was never quite sure what all my options were and therefore ended up taking quite a windy road getting to where I am now. I look forward to the opportunity to help a young person understand how they might form their passions into a career.
